The elders are pleased to be moving forward with the elder candidate process for Jeff Armitage at Harvest Bible Chapel Oakville.
We believe that Jeff has met the biblical qualifications and calling of an elder. One final step of our process involves putting his name forward to you, the church body, for four weeks to ensure that there are no significant theological, relational, or spiritual issues that would prevent us from moving forward with commissioning him as an elder.
Please direct your comments or concerns by February 9 via email to John McMullin, Elder Board Chairman, at firstname.lastname@example.org under the subject heading of Jeff Armitage Elder Process. Any concerns will be reviewed by the elder board. We thank the Lord and are excited about God’s continued grace and provision for our church family.
You are loved,
On Behalf of the Elders
God called me to salvation at the age of 8. Following a Christmas presentation and gospel
message, I sensed something was missing in my heart and acknowledged that it was Jesus who
would fill it. Since then, it has been a series of growth spurts and plateaus, and there have been
various times that I have heeded the call to step it up in my walk with the Lord, most notably
when I was beginning college. By God’s Spirit and grace, my relationship with God continues to
grow as I pursue Him and endeavour to live for Him. I am thankful to have been raised in a
home with Christian parents who pointed me in the way of the Lord. I am most thankful to be
saved from sin through Christ, growing in Him and destined for eternity with Him. God’s love
and kindness has undeservingly flowed throughout my life.
Our family began attending Harvest in 2009 when we moved to Oakville. Since that time, God
has been changing and sanctifying us. While at Harvest, God has led me toward greater hunger
for the Word, disdain for my sin and pursuit of His ways. My wife Jeanette has also grown
spiritually over this time and we are grateful to have our children Caleb, Cole, Jackson, Nate and
Claire involved in the kids and youth ministries. We have served by leading a Small Group in
our home over the last six years and being involved in Awana. It is a blessing to be a part of this
body of believers where God’s Word is upheld, worship is cultivated, prayer is emphasized, and
evangelism and compassion are advanced for God’s glory.
The experience of sitting with the elders over recent months has been a tremendous season of
observing God-honouring, Spirit-led men and being spiritually boosted as a result. I feel the Lord
is leading to take this step of becoming an elder of Harvest Oakville with the leading of the
elders, unity with Jeanette, a sense of God readying me in recent years for something, God’s
prompting to step out in faith for Him, and a growing desire for the role and excitement for what
He has in store for His church. Despite my inadequacies, I am resting on what I know from the
pages of Scripture, that God will be with us and strengthen us as we look to Him.
