On April 8 a group of parents and children from the Oakville Christian Homeschool Group had the opportunity to go on a tour of Galcom International in Hamilton. Galcom is a ministry that develops and builds fix-tuned, solar powered radios, and installs radio stations worldwide to enable missionaries to reach a broader audience with the gospel. Galcom also records audio Bibles in native languages around the world so even those who have no access to a Bible or are not able to read can hear the truth of God’s Word. It was started by three men from Ontario, Florida, and Israel who God brought together with a unified vision to reach the unreached with the gospel through radio technology.
In the time we spent on the tour, we were able to see how the radios are developed, built, and tested, and how radio broadcasts are recorded and edited. We even got to help assemble some parts of the radios for an actual order and test out some of our radio voices in the recording booth. They shared about the history and vision of Galcom and the impact their radio ministry is having around the world.
We do not have to be on the other side of the world to play a part in reaching the unreached. We learned how God leads, guides and directs His people from all around the world to come together for His purposes. And that He uses “ordinary” people who are willing to obey and trust in Him to do extraordinary things for the building of His kingdom. No matter what our gifts and abilities, they can be used for God.
I left challenged by this….Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19a). How this plays out may look different for every follower of Christ, but we are all called to “go”. After all, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?…How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:14-15) Oh how beautiful it is when the people of God come together to spread the good news of Christ, through a ministry like Galcom and beyond!
“That’s was cool” “I’d love to volunteer there sometime!” – Hendrik
“It was so neat that they let us help start to build some of the radios.” – Nicole
“That was the best trip ever” “I want to give $30 of my own money to send a radio to people” – Thomas
About assembling the radios….“I wanted to make sure no one ended up with a radio that wouldn’t work” – Braeden
“It was fun to build the front of a radio” – Ashton
“What were we particularly encouraged about was how three people of God were individually inspired by God and brought together for one purpose – all with various talents and gifts. It was also neat to learn that it wasn’t that complicated (to make radios) after the radio parts were set in order, and we learned it takes patience to make the radios and faith to ensure each radio finds that heart who will listen! Thank you…For taking us to a great place that inspires the world!” – Abraham and Tina
“Thank you for making a difference in the world. We will continue to pray for steadfast faith, to be bold and courageous to spread the gospel to lost and dying world…Thank you also for giving opportunities to all the homeschool children to be on the radio show. God bless each and every one of you. Please pray for our children, too, that can witness to others and be an instrument to be used by the saviour Jesus Christ. All glory to Him alone.” – Maryam
