We have just completed our first of three camps for Syrian children in Lebanon. What a blessing it is to be serving the Lord in this beautiful country—a country that has seen much conflict and religious division, but now is the place where God has chosen to reveal the Gospel to thousands of Muslim children.
Our team has been overwhelmed by the darkness in the lives of these children and the craving they have for love and affection. As we share the love of Christ with them through Bible stories, skits, crafts and songs of worship many of the children begin to experience a love that may be foreign to them. The days they spend at camp are critical and speaks to the urgency of the call of this mission field. For many of the children, this camp experience is a rare moment in their life when they are exposed to people who are living for Christ; people who teach and share compassion, forgiveness, grace and love.
Many of the children receive this message with the biggest smiles, hugs and gratitude. They long for this type of love. They long to sing praises that are full of joy and thanksgiving. In turn, many children are very inquisitive about this Jesus who loved the ungodly and would die for their sins. They are curious about this Jesus who rose again and promised a place in Heaven through faith, not something to be earned. Seeds are being planted amongst these children.
We have learned from our Lebanese brothers and sisters to keep our message focused on Christ’s sacrificial love — this above else is what these kids cry out for. “For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power” (1 Corinthians 1:17)
Please pray for continued strength and perseverance in this calling. That the Holy Spirit would fill our hearts and that His love would continue to overflow to these children. That God, in his timing, would grow these seeds amongst the Syrian children.
