          The Need

Primary: Fund the sponsorship of an Iraqi family currently living in Lebanon who are awaiting for approval of the private sponsorship organized by Harvest Bible Chapel.

Secondary: Fund the local outreach to Syrian Refugees settling in the regions of Halton and Hamilton. This would include tangible needs of food and clothing as well as resource materials to help share the good news of Jesus Christ.

          The Story

In September 2015 a small group of people in our church began the process of looking into refugee sponsorship. This opportunity arose at the request of help from a family in our church family looking to secure the safety of their family fleeing the war torn & persecuted region of Northern Iraq. Working alongside WORLD RENEW as the sponsorship agreement holder, we are prayerfully awaiting approval and arrival of this family to Canada. The cost for resettlement of this family is estimated at $30,000. We will be organizing employment opportunities, housing, transportation, furnishing, banking, health, and the spiritual care of this family. This a wonderful opportunity for us as a greater church body to come together and provide practically for the needs of this family.

In January 2016, our church welcomed a Syrian refugee family from Damascus. Having spent the last 3 years as refugees on the island of Cyprus, this family arrived in Canada as part of the initiative to settle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada. The Lord has given this family a heart to see Muslim’s reached with the gospel, and is actively looking to use their knowledge of the Arabic language and Syrian heritage as a door to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We are praying that a portion of funds raised will go towards supporting this family and other local initiatives to see the love of Christ extended to Muslim’s living in our region.
