The worship ministry of Harvest Oakville exists to help our church experience the sufficiency and express the supremacy of Christ in all things through both music and media.
Worship is the term we use to cover all the acts of the heart, mind, and body that express the infinite worth of God. This general term is made more specific in our “worship services.” We sing songs, bring tithes, hear and obey God’s Word, and reorient our lives based on God’s infinite worth.
We plan our weekend services around five key priorities:
1 – Bible saturation: the content of our singing and praying and welcoming and preaching will always conform to the truth of Scripture. God’s Word is the ground of all our appeal to authority. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” Isaiah 40:8
2 – Head and heart: Our service appeals to clear thinking about spiritual things, and seeks to ignite hearts with deep, strong, real emotions towards God with biblical truth. “And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:37
3 – Reality: Our services will have the atmosphere of a radically personal encounter with the God of truth. We pursue reverence, passion, and wonder. Read Psalm 96 for a picture of biblical worship.
4 – Transparency: We want all stage participants to disappear and allow the greatness of God to shine through. Our trust is in our message, not ourselves as messengers. “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” Psalm 115:1
5 – Contemporary and Traditional: We celebrate different time periods of musical expression to show how the glory of God transcends personal taste. “And he said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’” Matthew 13:52
Worship is expressed by what we say, sing, and the way we live. Our worship ministry includes singing and playing instruments. We believe singing praise to God is a powerful way to respond to our God and King.
“Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise!” Psalm 66:1-2
It is important to us that the songs we sing in church accurately reflect Scripture. Though we believe our enjoyment of God brings Him glory, praise is not ultimately about what we want, need, desire or prefer. Worship is an end in itself. We don’t worship to raise money, attract crowds or improve church morale. He is our satisfaction.
